Wild South Wellington Coast

914mm x 609mm

I was mountain biking south of Eastbourne towards Pencarrow head on a sunny day in May of this year and I was overawed by the power and ferocity of the sea and coast even on a pleasant Sunday afternoon. I kept stopping to take photographs and was getting cold but nature seemed in full force and I had to try and capture the ever changing light and the atmosphere and the salt in the air. Later at home in the warmth of my studio I sifted through the photos and was transported back to the excitement of that day and quickly sketched out the composition that would become the painting using various elements of different pictures I had taken.
