Poppies by the spa

The subject of this painting is from my garden where these poppies just seemed to burst from the ground in a blaze of colour that I found quite surreal and I couldn't resist the urge to paint them and the tangle of foliage that they sprang from. A lot of the background is looser and more impressionistic than I often do and I enjoyed the spontaneity, but when it came to the poppies I was compelled to try and capture their delicacy and perfection of form.
